Abstract

Bodies suitable for use as high temperature hot-face insulation refractories have been developed, on the basis of incorporations of combustible powders in Kyanite bodies, with a view to induce high porosity. The effects of varying the nature and proportion of the combustible and of the Kyanite and also the firing temperatures on the properties of the products have been studied. A relation between porosity and refractories under load in highly porous bodies has been observed. Problems remain because of the high firing temperatures required by these bodies.
