Abstract

In Part –I of the report it has been shown that complete separation of the oxide mixture containing equivalent amount of nickel and zinc oxides is not obtained by chlorination with HCL gas. As the first step for finding out the possibilities of separating the oxides mixture by carbon reduction whereby zinc is collected by distillation and nickel powder is left behind, a systematic study of the reduction mechanism of the reduction of nickel oxide with carbon has been made. Effect of the temperature on the reaction using varied amounts of the reducing agent and nickel oxide with different previous history of formation, has been studied.
