Abstract

The packing characteristics of forsterite grog have been studied with a view to arriving at a suitable particulate composition for producing refractory bricks under commercial conditions. Westman’s apparatus was used for determining packing densities. -5+7 mesh was chosen as coarse and -72 as economically attainable fines. On the basis of the experiments it was found that a mix consisting of 45 percent of -5-7 fraction, 25% of -36 +52 fraction and 30% of -72 fractions, gave a packing density of 2.44 gms/cc. This value does not vary for slight alterations of the particulate composition and was considered satisfactory.
