Abstract

boiling point, melting point, density and refractive index of a variety of haloethanes have been correlated with a newly proposed theoretical index, geometric volume. Geometric volume offers an alternative scheme for the calculation of unit molecular volume. The validity of the concept has been tested by further correlation of geometric volume with molar volume (M/rho) and critical volume (V(c)). A new parameter, common volume, has been identified which is as effective as geometric volume in correlating the molecular properties in haloethanes.
