Abstract

Since the last few years, attempts have been made in foreign countries, to compile data about the general properties and characteristics of foundry coke and to adopt suitable measure to improve upon the quality of foundry coke or to adjust cupola practice to suit the available coke quality. Surprisingly little interest has been shown in this country to study the problem as it confronts the Indian foundries today. The purpose of this paper is to outline salient functions of coke in a foundry cupola with particular reference to India’s position.
