Abstract

The influence of graphite/silicon carbide ratio and the effect of addition of fireclay grog on the properties of carbon-bonded graphite bodies have been studied. Suitable conditions for the carbonization of the organic binder, and the development of a glass to protect these bodies from oxidation have been investigated. Two body compositions that are expected to be suitable for the production of graphite crucibles have been suggested.
