Abstract

A sample of low grade manganese ore from Banswara, received from the Director of Mines and Geology, Rajasthan, assayed 38.82% Mn, 5% Fe, 6.7% Al2O3,21.58% SiO2, 0.15% P, 1.51% Ba, and 0.42% Cao. The principal manganese minerals were braunite and needles of polianite with quartz and garnet as the chief gangue minerals. Electrostatic separation of -65 mesh deslimed sample produced a concentrate assaying 48.0% Mn when electrostatic separation was done on a -48mesh deslimed sample. The above concentrates confirmed to the specifications laid down for the metallurgical grade of ore. The results obtained by the gravity, magnetic separation and flotation methods of concentration were not satisfactory.
