Abstract

This investigation on the bonding characteristics of a Rajasthan bentonite was referred to National Metallurgical Laboratory by M/s. Tata Locomotive & Engineering Co.Ltd., Tatanagar. A 30 lb. sample of the bentonite was supplied by the above firm in the form of lumps 2 to 3” in size. As received, the bentonite sample was pale yellowish in colour and contained 7-7. 5% moisture. The sample was crushed to about ½ “ size in a jaw crusher and then taken to the hammer mill. The -10 mesh product from the hammer mill was finely ground in the pulverizer. Bulk of the powder product passed through a 200 mesh sieve. This sample was then employed for determining the bonding characteristics of the bentonite.
