Abstract
This investigation was undertaken to study the suitability of Madras silica sand as a base for synthetic sand mixtures for steel moulding purposes. The sand sample was supplied by the southern circle of the Geological Survey of India, Madras. The sand was collected (as coarse sand grade) from alluvial deposit near Ennore, in Chengalpat district. Geologically the deposits are of recent and post-pliocene origin, occurring on the Coromandel Coast.
