Abstract

Four samples of limestone from Bhanpuri, Raipur District, Madhya Pradesh, were received from Mr. S.K.Das Gupta at the instance of the Director, Indian Bureau of Mines, for determination of crushing strength. The samples are weighing about 40 lbs. Each, were of the following sizes: Sample No. SDG/Cr 1....-4”+1”; Sample No. SDG/Cr 3...-2 ½ “ + ¾ “ ;Sample No. SDG/Cr 2...-1”; Sample No. SDG/Cr 4... -3/4”. All the above four samples were found to contain two distinct varieties of limestone approximately in the proportion of 1:3, the first being grey and the other pinkish brown in colour. These were examined separately. The sample are representing the finest fraction viz. -3/4 “, contained in addition to the above varieties, few pieces of greenish dolomitic limestone. Since these dolomite pieces were too small for preparing fair sized cubical test pieces , their crushing strength were not determined.
