Abstract

This investigation was taken up at the instance of the Director of Geology & Mining, Madhya Pradesh who desired a complete investigation into moulding characteristics of Jubbulpore green sand and its suitability for steel foundry practice. About 2 cwts. of this sand were received for investigation in the National Metallurgical Laboratory from Messrs. Burn & Co. Ltd., Jubbulpore, the owners of the sand quarry. As received, the sample was in the form of bounders 4”x6”in size pale green in colour, friable and with a fairly open texture. The boulders were stage-crushed to approximately pea size in a laboratory jaw crusher and then lightly milled in the Simpson laboratory sand mixer for 5 minutes prior to investigation.
