Abstract

A Sample of flue dust from the iron blast furnaces of the Tata Iron & Steel Co., Ltd., Jamshedpur, assayed 39.47% Fe, 14.38% SiO2, 9.54% Al2O3, 3.30 % CaO, 0.51% Mn and 0.23% P. It contained lateritic hematite, magnetite, ochre, quartz, calcite and coke dust. Tabling of the sample yielded a composite product assaying 60.63% Fe, 4.62% SiO2, 6.82% Al2O3 and 0.20% P with a recovery of 64.2% Fe in the product. Magnetic separation produced a magnetic product assaying 56.43% Fe which was comparatively high in alumina and silica.
