Abstract
This investigation was taken up at the instance of the Tata Locomotive & Engineering Company, Tatanagar, to determine the suitability of Rajmahal sand for use in moulds and cores in their steel foundries. The sand sample and necessary raw materials for this investigation were supplied by the above firm. As received, the sand contained about 13% of salt and clay grade matter. It was, therefore, deslimed in the Ore-Dressing division of the National Metallurgical Laboratory, prior to investigation of its moulding characteristics.
