Abstract

This investigation was undertaken at the instance of the Tata Engineering & Locomotive Co.Ltd., Tatanagar, using a sample of bentonite supplied by them and described as K (l) Bentonite. The object was to determine (i) the optimum percentage additions of the Bentonite required for bonding of washed Rajmahal sand to obtain the requisite range of physical properties use in moulds and (ii) optimum working moisture range in such synthetic sand mixtures for green sand moulding in the steel foundry.
