Abstract

Young’s Modules of Elasticity is one of the most important data involved in engineering problems. It is generally desirable that the Young’s Modules of a Structural material should be as high possible so that the material may be used in constructional work with maximum efficiency. For this purpose it is desirable to study systematically the factors which influence Young’s modules. Efforts to improve the modules of elasticity of steels either by addition of alloying elements or by mechanical and thermal treatment have so far met with any great success, but it was felt that a useful purpose would be served by determining the modules for a range of plain carbon steels at temperatures from 20 to 650° c.
