Abstract

The paper records the results obtained on the investigations carried out for determining the optimum condition for the production of titanium by Kroll’s process. Development of the assembly for the distillation of titanium tetrachloride for purification and also for the reduction of the same by magnesium has been fully described. Influenced of various into the reduction vessel, ratio of titanium tetrachloride and magnesium used in the reduction and holding time has been studied. Metal of about 98.5% purity has been successfully prepared up to the scale of 1 Ib. of the metal per experiment, the impurities being magnesium, iron and nitrogen.
