Abstract

Chlorination of Ilmenite has been studied on a studies on a laboratory scale to establish conditions for selective removal of oxides of iron from Ilmenite is formic chloride. The influence of particles size of the ore, type of higher, carbon content of the briquettes, the catalyst used and the chlorination temperature have been studied. Favourable conditions for the differential chlorination of iron from Ilmenite have been found is follows: (a) mesh size of ore: -200; (b) binder: ferric chloride; (c) carbon content of the briquettes: 6.8 g.per 100g. of ore; (d) temperature of Chlorination: 500 to 600° c.
