Abstract

Fulbonds are proprietary bonding clays manufactured from the mineral fullers’ earth, by Fullers’ Earth Union,(Surrey ,England). In this paper , the results of the bonding characteristics of imported Fulbonds grade 1,2, and 4-A have been presented using the local Swarnarekha sand as base. It has been shown that Fulbonds No.1can be used as a bond in green sand practice for steel castings and as a booster for sand dry strength characteristics and has been found suitable for dry sand moulding. Fulbonds No.4-A possesses a wide moulding range with green strength and permeability. In India, deposits of Fullers’ earth occur at a number of please in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Their places of occurrence and chemical analyses have been furnished. It has been suggested that in view of the limited resources of bentonites in India, exploitation of the indigenous deposits of Fullers’ earth may be necessary to supplement the former.
