Abstract

The mechanism of sintering of metal powders has been studied using prealloyed steel powder. The sintering process was conducted in a nitrogen atmosphere for varying temperatures and duration of sintering. The properties used for the measurement of the progress of sintering are volume changes, graphic study of the size and shape of the pores. A model has been proposed based on interfacial energy to account geometrically for the metallographically observed changes in the shape and size of pores.
