Abstract
A brief outline of the theories of Magnetising roast for the beneficiation of ferruginous manganese ores has been presented. Optimum conditions for the beneficiation of a ferruginous manganese ore from Tisco analysing 26.8% Mn, 28.8% Fe, 6.5% Al2O3, 6.64% SiO2 and 0.11% P, have been worked out to yield a manganese concentrate containing 55 to 62% Mn and 5 to 3.2% Fe. This concentrate should be an ideal raw material for the trate should be an ideal raw material for the production of high grade ferromanganese. Another product obtained in the process analysing 50 to 60 % iron and 15 to 10% Mn could be used in the blast furnace as a source of manganese in the pig iron. Washing methods for the removal of silica and alumina in the ore have also been studied.
