Abstract

A Survey of Cast Iron Foundries under the category of small scale industries at Howrah reveals that sand from Tarakeswar in the District of Hooghly, West Bengal is widely used as Foundry moulding sand. No systematic study has so far been carried out on this sand to determine its suitability for foundry moulding work. Extensive investigation was therefore undertaken by the NML Foundry Station, Howrah to assess the moulding properties of this sand. M/s. J.D. Industries, Pvt., Kona, Howrah kindly agreed to supply the Foundry Station with required amount of sand sample for carrying out the investigation.
