Abstract

Studies on sintering characteristics of Bhawanathpur dolomite for its suitability as steel plant refractory material in the Bokaro Steel Plant were carried out on a laboratory scale. These studies included physical and chemical tests on the raw dolomite as well as tests after firing of the raw dolomite. Bulk density and porosity of both raw and fired dolomites, sintering characteristics of fired dolomites at various temperature levels from 1500 C to 1700°C, and hydrations resistance of the fired dolomites were also investigated. The improvement in sintering characteristics by addition of mill scale was also studied.
