Abstract
At the instance of Messrs National Mineral Development Corporation, exhaustive tests were undertaken on a 100-tonnes sample of iron ore from Meghataburu Mines with a view to supplying ore to the Bokaro Steel Plant and the result obtained are incorporated in this report. These result indicated that washing could successfully solve the problem of handling sticky and wet ore to yield sized lumpy ore free from adhering fines for blast furnace charging and reject a slime high in alumina and silica and alumina contents of these could be further lowered .sintering characteristics of the -3/8"(-9.5mm)beneficiated fines were also studied in detail and the result indicated that good metallurgical grade fluxed sinter could be produced .Mixed firing technique employed for sintering showed that the solid fuel coke could be substituted by a gaseous fuel ,coke could be substituted by a gaseous fuel namely producer gas, up to the extent of 30%, without appreciably affecting the sinter quality .
