Abstract

Necessity for large scale production of dense carbon aggregates, is urgent in India as we lack anthracites and hard cokes low in their ash contents. In these investigations, the possibility of obtaining dense low ash carbon from carbonaceous materials available in India has been investigated. Previous work indicates that it is possible to produce these aggregates by the simple process of briquetting with a binder and heat treating the briquettes. The process variables encountered and behavior of the briquettes themselves under heat treatment cycles are briefly revived in this paper. Studies on obtaining carbon of requisite bulk density and strength from high volatile ligneous Coals of Assam have been reported.
