Abstract

Studies have been made of dissolution characteristics of cast and depolarized nickel anodes for further improvements of dull nickel plating salt solution, replacing nickel chloride with a suitable amount of sodium chloride leaving the other ingredients in the bath unchanged. It is interesting to note that with 20 gms of sodium chloride per litre in the electrolyte, anodic current efficiency of cast nickel is not varied appreciably with the rise of current density at pH 4.In the case of depolarised nickel, the rate of anodic dissolution is not uniform with the increase of current density in the same bath. Cathodic efficiency is, of course, high in all the experimental observations. One of the compositions of nickel plating solutions, has established its suitability in commercial plating practice using less costly cast nickel anodes and replacing NiCl2 by NaCl in the bath.
