Abstract

Curie temperature of Iron-aluminium and iron-silicon alloys has been measured by an induction method. The variation of Curie temperature with composition suggests a process of electron absorption by iron at lower percentages of solute followed by dilution of iron, before ordering sets in . The electron absorption by iron is suggested to be due to the filling up of the holes in 3d band in excess of the 2.22 holes responsible for ferromagnetism to be shown. The process of filling up of excess holes is at rate proportional to the valency electrons contributed by solute. Addition of more solute, once these excess holes are filled up, reduces curie temperature at a rate suggesting dilution of iron by the solute. the number of holes in 3d state is conclude to be 2.58 and the value of the excess holes is 0.36 per atom of iron.
