Abstract

Laboratory studies have been made on the sintering of iron ore fines from the deposits at Rajharapahar, Madhya Pradesh, which is a source of iron ore supply for the proposed Bhilai steel plant. The effects of variables such as composition of sinter, i.e. contents of coke, moisture, basicity and raw material proportions on the sintering time and so on the quality of sinter produced have been studied. Optimum conditions for obtaining a self-fluxing sinter have been evaluated. It is hoped that the data presented will be helpful in designing the sinter plant for the Bhilai Steel Project.
