Abstract

Pilot Plant studies on beneficiation and sintering characteristics of a sample of compact laminated iron ore received from the Dalli Mines of Hindustan Steel Limited were undertaken at the National Metallurgical Laboratory and the results are presented in this Report. The sample was of good grade and low in insoluble content (3.94%). It was possible to bring down the insoluble content to 2.41% in the +1/2" fraction by wet screening the ore only after crushing to about 2" size. 23.2% of total silica and 14.3% of total alumina present in the sample could be this rejected in the slime with an iron loss of only 1%. The -1/2" washed fines after desliming could be sintered without needing any further beneficiation. Good metallurgical quality self-fluxing sinters having basicity ratios (Cao+ MgO/SiO2_Al2O3) upto 2.4, could be produced.
