Abstract

A proprietory binder developed especially for Soederberg pastes, a Hivis Road tar which has good binding properties and a pitch made by flash distilling coke oven tar at a high temperature, have been studied. Coking values, equiviscous temperature, and physical properties of compacts made with varying proportions of the binders using calcined petroleum coke as the base material, have been determined. Comparative performance of the three binders has been commented upon. Scope of further study has also been indicated.
