Abstract

Sintering characteristics of jig concentrates produced from washed ore fines from Bolani Iron ore mine, for the production of high basicity self-fluxing sinters as well as sinters incorporating varying amounts of burnt lime, fines from the iron ore supp1ied by the Minerals & Metal Trading Corporation and iron powders have been determined. Effect of mixed firing on sintering has also been studied. Sinters of high basicity ratio upto 4.0-4.5 could be produced from the jig concentrate. Use of fresh burnt lime appreciably increased the sintering rate. Minerals & Metal Trading Corporation fines iron powders could be successfully incorporated in the sinter mix to yield good sinters. A few tests employing mixed sinter firing indicated that the introduction of fuel gas during sintering could minimise coke consumption by about 20%.
