Abstract

Pilot Plant studies on beneficiation and sintering characteristics of a representative 100 tonnes sample of iron ore from Kiriburu mines of the National Mineral Development Corporation were undertaken in 1962 at National Metallurgical Laboratory and reported in N.M.L. Report No. I.R. 244/ 62. The Laboratory has since taken up similar studies with ore samples from different mining faces of the Kiriburu Iron ore mines. The present report deals with a mixed sample from Hill No.1, Bench No.2, and Hill No.2, Bench No. 2 of Kiriburu mines. The results have established that besides successfully solving the problems of handling sticky and wet ore, the processes of scrubbing the ore followed by wet screening and jigging of the fines -3/8” (-9.5 mm) would yield enriched lumpy ore as well as beneficiated ore fines for the production preferably of fluxed sinters suitable for iron smelting in the blast furnace.
