Abstract

This Report has been prepared to outline the scope and potentialities of substitution of such non-ferrous metals in which is highly deficient by those indigenously available in the background of expansion of non-ferrous metal industries during our successive Five Year Plans. The scope of such a Report would of-course, naturally be vast indeed even to refer to diverse engineering alloys wherein such substitution could successfully be introduced both in times of peace and war emergencies on urgent priority basis. In either case, the scope of potential substitution will cover a wide spectrum; one may tend to loss sight of specific versatile applications if the Report were to cover the somewhat well-known general features of the subject Vis-a –Vis present status of Indian metallurgical and engineering industries. The subject of substitution has always tended to be somewhat controversial judge as it is on the basis of particular availability of the raw metals not only in relation to metallurgical acceptability of the substitute alloys but also on the economics of their production and service life. As such , the diverse substitutional factors have to be rationally and scientifically examined to establish their industries acceptance, particularly in the background of Indian conditions.
