Abstract

A low grade chrome ore assaying 29.47 percent Cr2O3 and 17.65 percent FeO was subjected to beneficiation tests. The gangue minerals associated with chromite were antigorite, chlorite, talc and anthophyllite. Straight tabling the ore ground to -65 mesh produced a concentrate assaying 47.45 percent Cr2)3 with a recovery of 74.3 percent. Straight tabling the -100 mesh ore yielded a concentrate assaying 48.23 percent Cr2O3 with a recovery of 64.7 percent. Humphrey's spiral test with a -65 mesh ore, followed by tabling of the spiral concentrate, produced a spiral -table concentrate assaying 47.14 percent Cr2O3 with a recovery of 60.0 percent.Soap flotation at a pH of 4.8 using distilled water, sulphuric acid ,sodium oleate and oleic acid, produced a concentrate assaying 48.35 percent Cr2O3 with a recovery of 61.9 percent.
