Abstract

Some Jari Platers at Surat were finding troubles with old plating baths which presented one or more of these difficulties: a)Bad adhesion of the electro-deposit b)Absence of plate after electrolysis c)Some tainted yellowish red The adhesion of the plate to the base metal was rectified by the addition or control of some addition agents specially potassium iodide. The absence of electro-deposit was mainly due to an excess of free cyanide and was removed by adjusting the same. The tainted effect was astonishingly traced not to the impurities of the salt used or bad electrical connection, but to the negligence of the platers who did not care to remove the negligence of the platers who did not care to remove the coils of copper-wire from the bath into which some of them dropped accidentally during electrolysis.
