Abstract
In some work done on the Structure of liquid Pb –Sn Alloys at the National Metallurgical Laboratory it has been reported by Rajendra Kumar et.al.-using centrifuging technique and basing their conclusions on the chemical analysis data of liquid Pb –Sn solution, that clusters exist in the liquid state. As the data from the chemical analysis are observed to have large scatter, the same has been subjected to statistical analysis with a view to examine the interplay of variable concerned in explaining the variations in lead concentration of liquid Pb-Sn alloy solution, for the existence of such a variation would, in turn, imply the existence of a concentration gradient in the solution. The regression coefficient as a measure of concentration gradient and obtained from the regression curve has been utilised along with other statistical parameters of cluster formation in the Pb-Sn solution. The present paper discussion in details various aspects of statistical approach to the metallurgical problem, within the limitations of experimental data available.
