Abstract

A low-grade graphite sample from Doomara village, Ajmer, Rajasthan received for beneficiation tests, assayed, C, 8. 19; Ash, 84.37; volatile matter, 4. 92; and moisture, 2.52 percent. The gangue minerals present in the sample were mica, quartz, and tourmaline with traces of calcite. Graphite was found to be intimately associated with mica even at 200 mesh and therefore a high grade of graphite concentrate could not be obtained by flotation methods. A concentrate obtained after one relocation assayed 56. 65% ash indicated that it was not possible to produce even a foundry grade graphite from the sample.
