Abstract

For the analysis of various manganese brasses developed at the National Metallurgic Laboratory, difficulties were encountered in during the electrolytic separation and subsequent estimation of copper due to the precipitation of manganese dioxide during electrolysis. In order to prevent the precipitation of manganese dioxide the effect of the addition of a few organic reducing agents in the solution before electrolysis has been studied .It has been found that addition of formaldehyde and methyl, alcohol, retards the precipitation of manganese dioxide.
