Abstract

A Sample of titaniferous iron ore received from the Director of Geology and Mining, Government of Maharashtra, assayed 55.7% Fe, 15.11% TiO2, 6.5% FeO, 2.1% SiO2, 1.05% Al2O3, 0.70% MgO, 0.009% P and 0.005% S. continuous wet magnetic separation of the sample crushed to -10 mesh size followed by grinding of the magnetic concentrate obtained, to -65 mesh and magnetic separation yielded a final magnetic concentrate assaying 63.05% Fe, and 9.9% TiO2 with a recovery of 71.1% Fe. It is suggested that the magnetic concentrate, may be smelted after suitable agglomeration.
