Abstract

Pilot Plant studies on beneficiation and sintering characteristics of a sample of hydroxide iron ore received from Dalli Mines of Hindustan Steel Ltd., were undertaken at the National Metallurgical Laboratory. The result is presented in this Report. The sample was of a low grade and high in insoluble content (18.9%). It was possible to bring down the insolubles to 4.66% in the +1/2" fraction by washing and upgrading the ore after jigging yielded a product assaying 53.7% Fe and 11.3% silica plus alumina. Fluxed sinters of basicity ratios (CaO+ MgO/SiO2+Al2O3)upto 2.03 possessing good strength, could be produced from the upgrade fines.
