Abstract
Pilot Plant studies were undertaken on beneficiation and sintering characteristics of a representative sample of iron ore sent by Rajhara Iron Ore Mines of Bhilai Steel Plant of Hindustan Steel Ltd. The investigations were based on ore treatment such as crushing , scrubbing, screening, heavy-media separation and jigging treatment. Sintering characteristics of sample washed ore fines as well as beneficiated ore fines based on non-fluxing and self-fluxing sinters were evaluated, including additions of MgO through dolomite. The results presented in this Report indicated that ore washing can under Indian weather conditions apart from providing enriched sized ore burden suitable for iron smelting as well as enable the use of washed ore fines for the production of sinter. Heavy media separation and jigging of the washed ore products could further improve the grade of iron ore and decrease its silica and alumina contents, if required.
