Abstract

Aluminum foundry dross is associated with metallic particles, metallic and non-metallic oxides and other foreign materials picked up from floor sweepings. The flux materials also often find their way into the dross. Considerable portions of the coarse metal particles can be hand-picked whilst the fines go to waste. The recovery of the metallic values from the dross and other wastes has been almost universally followed in foreign countries. The metallic values recovered from the aluminium dross can be used as such or classified into different fraction or suitably melted. Aluminium dross may contain 20 to 60% metallics, depending on the individual melting practice.
