Abstract

The bentonite sample under the name S.B.I. was received from Director of Mining and Geology, Jammu and Kashmir Government, Srinagar. The sample as received was in the form of lumps, having a pinkish colour with dull waxy lustre and a soapy touch. It was crushed and passed through 100 mesh in the investigation. After investigation, this was found that sample is suitable for green moulding purposes. A 5% addition to the Rajmahal high silica sand formed a good moulding material for steel castings in the green sand practice. It may, however, be suggested from a purely theoretical point of view, that for improving the dry moulding characteristics of the bentonite in the proper proportions.
