Abstract
This bentonite sample was supplied by Messrs Fomes Private Limited, D-38, Industrial Estate, Rajajinagar, Bangalore-10. It has been reported that the deposits of the bentonite occur in the suburbs of Madras, about 15 miles off. The sample as received was in the powder form and had a dull light brown colour. The tests conducted on this sample of bentonite comprised of moisture content, chemical analysis, pH-value, gel value, swelling index, dry fineness, wet fineness, Petrological examination, total base exchange capacity, differential thermal analysis, Na to Ca ratio (photometric) sintering range and bonding characteristics.
