Abstract

Studies on the effect of various factors such as shape and finish of the die aparture, temperature of billet and tools, speed of extrusion and nature of lubricant on the dimensional variation and metallurgical quality of the extruded duralumin type alloy (L 65) were carried out. It was noticed that lower speed of extrusion and relatively higher temperature of the billet resulted in improved surface of the extruded rod and reduced grain growth through the section of the product. Use of well-finished die having small bearing length & entry radius resulted in lower extrusion pre sure, and gave the good surface of the product. Extrusion under well-lubricated the condition was noticed to reduce the zone of critical deformation and detrimental grain growth in consequence .
