Abstract

Engineering materials are extremely essential for sustainable development as they meet the needs in different domains such as transport, power and electricity, automobiles, petrochemicals, fabrication and construction, electronics, space, atomic energy, defence and environment. During last six to seven decades emphasis has been laid to develop special steels, quality iron and its alloys, magnesium, aluminium and titanium alloys, titanium sponge, special magnetic materials, ceramic and refractory materials, composite materials, polymers, corrosion resistant, heat resistant and oxygen resistant materials, smart materials and Nano materials for multiple engineering applications. These new engineering materials are emerging fast based on the correlations among the microstructure-composition-properties-process parameters.
