Abstract

The paper reports the results of metallographic studies of the process of precipitation in Fe-5% titanium steels. It is shown that the precipitation of Fe2Ti is preceded by the decomposition of the matrix into Ti-rich and Ti-depleted regions. On prolonged aging, however, besides coalescing, Fe2Ti decomposes into lamellar FeTi and α-iron. Metallographic studies are supported by x-ray diffraction analyses.
