Abstract

A novel technique has been used for comparative studies of the reducibility of several Indian iron ores and of the oxidation behaviour of several solid reductants. The technique, termed the moving bed technique (MBT), has been employed in investigating the effects of different combinations of various ores and coals. MBT results on some specific systems have been compared with those obtained from other methods e.g. the standard reducibility test, thermal analysis using a commercial thermal analyser etc. It is shown that the data generated by MBT are more useful because the technique recreates some essential features of non-isothermal continuous reactors.
