Abstract

Joining behaviors of SS321 stainless steel and 9Cr-1Mo steel have been investigated by a rapidly solidified Cu based filler alloy. The steels are brazed by the filler alloy at different temperatures, and subsequently the joining microstructures and bond strength have been examined by an electron probe microanalysis (EPMA) and a universal tensile testing machine, respectively. The interfacial microstructures of the joints are mostly defect free, explaining the presence of solid solution phases. It results in high bond strength with a 60-70% of base metal strength.
