Abstract
In the present investigation, two service exposed tubes of modified 9Cr-1Mo steel, welded as butt joint by Tungsten inert gas (TIG) technique has been considered. The tubes have been post weld heat treated for 3 hrs at 650,700 and 750degC. The fusion zone (FZ), heat affected zone (HAZ) and base metal (BM) showed different Magnetic Barkhausen emission (MBE) signals. It was also observed that with increase in PWHT, the RMS voltage of MBE signal increased. The microstructural modifications post-weld heat treatments revealed distinct effect not only on MBE but also on Magnetic hysteresis loop (MHL) properties. The observation of weldment zones through Giant Magneto-impedance (GMI) based sensing device named as ‘MagSys’ developed at CSIR-NML will be discussed in the conference presentation.
