Abstract

In the present investigation, an attempt has been made to produce Ferro coke for iron & steel industries. For this purpose two-coal samples, one coking coal and another low volatile coking coal have been selected. Coking coal sample was collect from Sudamdih coal washery of Bharat coking coal Ltd and low volatile coking coal was collect from Khashmahal colliery. Coking coal & low volatile coking coal samples were thoroughly characterized. Ferro coke was prepared from both the coal samples and with the blend of these two. An iron ore fine of 75-micron size was used for this purpose. The effect of various parameters like percentage of iron ore fines, proportion of coal blended carbonization temperature and time on Ferro coke strength has been investigated. For measuring, the strength of Ferro coke shatter test was carried out. A blend of 35% Coking coal, 55% low volatile coking coal and 10% iron ore fines resulted into good quality Ferro coke to be acceptable by iron & steel industries.
